  • Dødheimsgard ‎(NOR) – Monumental Possession LP 32.88

    Black Metal

180g vinyl version of Dodheimsgard’s second album from 1996.

The powerful and dark Monumental Possession followed swiftly on the heels of the band’s innovative debut Kronet til Konge (featuring Darkthrone’s Fenriz on bass) and firmly established Dodheimsgard as one of the leading names of the infamous mid-90’s Norwegian Black Metal scene.

  • Fimbulwinter (NOR) – Servants of Sorcery CD 16.88

    Black Metal

A 2023 official release of the cult classic primitive Norwegian black metal recorded in 1992, featuring Dimmu Borgir’s Shagrath.

Fimbulwinter, though short-lived, created a sole cult release in the form of 1994’s ‘Servants of Sorcery’, which emerged as the “second wave” of Norwegian black metal was truly taking hold. The band was formed in Oslo 1992, led by the notable figure of Shagrath, becoming most known afterwards as mainman for the phenomenon that was Dimmu Borgir. A more raw affair than the symphonic majesty of Dimmu Borgir, Fimbulwinter demonstrated a primal and fierce black metal attack, and concocted a perfect example of the early-90s style, with an extra injection of praise to bands of the 80s.

  • Godkiller (DEU) – The Rebirth of the Middle Ages LP 34.88

    Black Metal

A prime example of finely crafted, grandiose yet raw mid-90s Black Metal, the release creatively developed out of 1995’s demo, The Warlord (incorporating music from that release, with anti-Christian themes prevalent throughout and an overall concept of the battle between good and evil).

With a cold, stripped down production, plus triumphantly dark yet epic riffs mixed with tortured vocals and highly effective synthesizer melodies, the EP evokes a strong Medieval atmosphere throughout, and shows why The Rebirth of the Middle Ages is still highly regarded as a glorious touch of darkness from the past.

  • Isengard (NOR) – Høstmørke CD 16.88

    Black Metal

‘Høstmørke’, meaning Autumn Darkness, was the second Isengard album, (even though the debut, ‘Vinterskugge’ is a collection of sorts). It was released in 1995 and featured a continuation of Norwegian folk elements mixed with some doom, with all instruments once again performed by Fenriz himself, as well as the now-trademark vocal delivery. The latter part of the album also features a couple of black metal tracks which explore territory a bit more in line with Darkthrone, particularly the track ‘Total Death’. Høstmørke is also notable for featuring a couple of small guest appearances from Aldrahn (Thorns, ex Dødheimsgard) and Vicotnik of Dødheimsgard.

  • Isengard (NOR) – Vårjevndøgn LP 32.88

    Black / Folk Metal

After a period of 25 long years since Isengard’s last studio output, and having recently unearthed a set of tracks from his own archive of material recorded back in those early glory days, this new series of tracks – which were thought to be lost – follow on from some of the metal last heard on 1994’s ‘Vinterskugge’.

‘Vårjevndøgn’ is a monumental journey of epic heavy metal mixed with a often more sombre doomy rock/metal atmosphere bringing to mind bands like US heavy metal veterans Pentagram, & also includes 2 tracks previously only heard on the limited ‘Traditional Doom Cult’ 7” Peaceville release from 2017.

  • Katatonia (SWE) – Dance Of December Souls PINK LP 32.88

    Black Metal

Katatonia was formed in Stockholm Sweden, in 1991 by Anders Nystrom and Jonas Renkse. Their debut album, ‘Dance of December Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal and joining acts such as Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride as one of the genre’s defining bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined and structured collection of melodic dark rock songs which became third album ‘Discouraged Ones’ which is widely regarded as the main evolution point for modern day Katatonia, where a much more progressive style of metallic rock was successfully embraced.

    Black Metal

The earliest raw recordings of the 21st Century titans of Norwegian Black Metal, including three additional tracks. On vinyl (180g) for the first time.
Harking back to the earliest period of the band, Rota Til Ondskap (2007) captures Mork at its most primal during those formative years, with a collection of raw demo tracks fuelled by masters of Norwegian Black Metal such as Mayhem, Darkthrone and Burzum, as well as Eriksen’s own interpretations and expansions of the Black Metal riffing style fused with twisted melodic passages, with a series of recordings draped in a thick layer of hellish, swirling chaos.
