In its original CD form, this has been ABIGOR´s most celebrated and best sold album, together with CRADLE OF FILTH´s debut heralding the start of Gothic Black Metal. Yet in stark contrast to the commercial traits, behind the well-implemented female vocals and tasteful keyboard additions lurks a backbone of Satanic Black Metal in its most radical form – by that, being a true product of the underground’s peak moment, when Black Metal reared its most ugly head in 1995.
In this regard, Nachthymnen is an almost solitary case, written by the reckless Austrian triumvirate at the age of 19 and 20, uniting beauty and wickedness, melancholic longing and an apocalyptic death drive. 1994-1995 – the golden years when black metal had reached the peak of its splendor and its essence – in these years came out the best masterpieces of the historic Scandinavian bands like DARKTHRONE, MAYHEM, MARDUK and so on. Among these realities there were also the Swedish Abruptum who decided to conceive of black metal in a completely different form, even more obscure and malignant than the genre that was emerging. Two well-known members of the Scandinavian scene (It, founder of “True Satanist Horde” and Evil, better known as Morgan – founding member of mighty Marduk) joined forces to give birth to two masterpieces of pure chaotic darkness – “Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectère Me” (1993, recorded in 1992) and “In Umbra Malitiae Ambulabo, in Aeternum in Triumpho Tenebrarum” (1994, recorded in 1993). Euronymous from Mayhem immediately understood the uniqueness and authenticity of Abruptum and decided to submit the Swedish duo to his historic label “Deathlike Silence Productions” and release the the two full-lengths.

. By the time they released their third full-length album “Vi Sonus Veris Nigrae Malitiaes,” in 1996, on Full Moon Productions, IT had parted ways with ALL and recorded the album alone. With “Vi Sonus…,” IT pushed Abruptum to new extremes, cultivating a sound that is cold, opaque, and lifeless. The album also marked an inflection point for Abruptum, for soon after the release of “Vi Sonus…,” IT recruited Morgan “Evil” Håkansson, best known as the guitarist and founding member of Marduk.
