Regarded today as a hallmark in the folk / viking black metal scene, the influence of WINDIR’s sophomore record ‘Arntor’ (1999) is not to be underestimated and can be easily compared to that of BATHORY.
The roots that put down with debut ‘Sóknadalr’ were strengthened with this album. Combining icy guitar riffs and building atmosphere with epic melodies, ‘Arntor’ is the album that introduced the band to an international audience and is widely recognized as an inspiration for many folk / pagan metal bands today.

On WINDIR’s fourth and final full-length ‘Likferd’ (2003), many of the folk elements that characterized the band’s previous records were pushed to the background in favor of a stronger black metal influence.
The last record that Valfar wrote before he passed, ominously translated as ‘funeral’, marked a change to a much darker and brooding atmosphere. While ‘Likferd’ has mostly remained in the shadows of ‘Arntor’ and ‘1184’, it is an album that saw WINDIR mature and for that reason is another important chapter of the band’s legacy.

WINDIR’s debut ‘Sóknadalr’ was released in 1997.
Whereas many bands take years to develop a signature sound, founding member Valfar knew the direction he wanted to take from the start.
One can immediately recognize the trademark Sognametal style from this cult classic, featuring the synth melodies combined with raw black metal, harsh and clean vocals, inspired by the sweeping views of the Sognefjord.

Doom Metal

All copies pressed on a sort of marbled mauve-coloured vinyl, with few colour-variations due to pressing on vinyl leftovers. Comes with a 4-page A5 booklet with Roadburn poster/info.
