Shadow Dungeon (BiH) – A Crypt of Mysteriis SILVER VERSION LP
€38.88
Dungeon Synth
Rattling chains of immortal rust, whose echoes of spectral shackles break forth from old stone dungeons, let loose great streams of dark ambient bliss through the morbid entity known only as Shadow Dungeon; whom have been plying their dungeon synth laden sorrows for many years now from the cold embrace of the lands of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now, for the first time in all of the grim of eternity, comes their masterpiece of medieval atmospherics—A Crypt of Mysteriis—upon the finest wax of blackest vinyl, this with sleeve emboldened by great foil of silver and foil of gold. All of this wonder is supplied to dungeoneering acolytes by the iron mystery that is GoatowaRex shadow supremacy.
A Crypt of Mysteriis delivers exactly as its title promises, providing a hazy descent into the broken stone crypts and labyrinths of a necromantic languor, gnarled root breaking forth from cold black earth, as spirits whom have long since shed their own mortal coils frolic in misery to those tunes which Shadow Dungeon emit. A lonely dual dirge of melancholy synth, whose melodies are distant and forlorn, spreading leylines of mythic essence upon altars of ancient import, haunted memories of legends long forgotten reimagined through a medium of sinister synth instrumentation. Spectacularly executed, and vivid in its vision for medieval ministrations, acolytes with any interest in those dungeon synth adventures into the lowest depths of the tomb studded earth, need scry their auguries no longer, nor melt the fat from bones to the void gods upon sable flame—for the Shadow Dungeon awaits them, hungry for those souls lost in a maze of eternal broken stone.

One of the most accomplished newcomers Signal Rex has come across in recent years, the shadowy entity of Valais burst from the voidal womb fully formed in the middle of 2021 with their self-titled debut album. Despite existing in the vast (and vastly inconsistent) wilderness of Bandcamp, Valais in fact imparted a power and poignancy that takes most bands at least a couple records to reach, if at all. Both classically composed and forward-thinking, Valais understood right from the start the core tenets of true black metal, but equally understood how to inject their own personality and poise into such to create something that adds to the language of BLACK METAL rather than mimics its speech patterns (and sloppily so).
No, Valais as a work is a towering monument of tension and release, skillful contours and subtle dynamics, richly malevolent melody and slipstreaming violence. Aesthetic touchstones include the likes of Slidhr, latter-day Leviathan, and even Blut Aus Nord at their wiliest, but Valais also exhibit an understated sense of the pagan – perhaps stemming from their native Ireland, or perhaps from some strange cosmos far beyond our comprehension… Either way, all of this coalesces into a whilrlwinding five-song/37-minute experience that feels far vaster than that succinct runtime otherwise suggests. As such, Signal Rex is honored to rightfully release this tome in all physical formats.

UK Black Metal act GLEMT brings forth their debut long play record entitled “Eclipsing Through The Womb Of Twilight And Dementia”. This album falls nothing short of pure audible chaos and insanity forcing the listener to become engulfed in the pure darkness of the void so they become an active participant in the rituals manifested through Glemt. Therefore this is more of a pact between the void and the forbidden, leaving no room for light or hope for all life.
This album was manifested through the will of tormented spirits that made themselves know through Magick and communication with the deceased. This, therefore, opens forth the Left-Hand Path and the bleak passageway into the utter blackness of deaths abyss past the point of no return, so that all forbidden truths are relieved.

Building upon that grand fortress is a four-song/22-minute mini-album likewise truly titled: The Oath of the Black Wolf. Here, ORGREL have gone a-hunting, their ’90s black metal classicism stalking and striking with a hunger only hinted at previously. Still, fueled by this fire they may be, the Italians across this mini manage to maximize their epic side, with the predecessor’s flat-yet-full soundfield now becoming slightly more chromatic in the process. Lead lines portend dark truths, ever building in tension and then grandeur, but the record’s swift-yet-satisfying runtime reveals the darkest, most intrinsic truth: black metal doesn’t need to “become” anything when it already IS. Hail The Oath of the Black Wolf!

RUTTOKOSMOS are one of the great “what if?”s of Finnish black metal. The band formed sometime in 2003 and released the five-song Ja minä näin kuoleman demo in 2006 and then the six-song Kärsimys demo a year later. Afterward, nothing was heard from RUTTOKOSMOS ever again. Only one member concurrently played in Divina Inferis, and the other two members either disappeared and played pseudonymously in other bands.
