Vintersorg’s classic album remastered! A real gem of epic Swedish Viking Metal!

As someone who listens to Metal albums on a daily basis, as well as being a Metal fan for well over 40 years, there are many great Metal albums out there. But sometimes an album comes along that changes how we look at Metal. We are not sure if that was Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund‘s intention when he wrote his debut full length, “Till Fjälls”, but that is exactly what this album did. His intention was to create a sound that was Black Metal based but also focusing more on clean vocals and adding more traditional Swedish folk elements to the that base. He inadvertently patented a new sound and sub-genre.

Virulent Specter emerges from hidden depths, now in its 7th year of existence – drawing inspiration from the 90’s ethos with
elements of various genres, notably a prominent and increasing resemblance to primitive death metal.

This sophomore full-length installment builds upon the ideas of both past and present, resulting in a mature and more consolidated
vision of nefarious black metal; executed with precision, fury and an energy of rot and misery seldom captured in the current underground.

Themes of Nature, Time and Memory, half-forgotten Gods, Death, Creation and the eternal cycles of the Earth endlessly jostle alongside (and morph into) obfuscated personal moments in a kaleidoscopic prison reflecting the paradoxically claustrophobic yet expansive/maximalist sound of the album.
An unusual approach to the genre with an emphasis on composition and melody to send the listener on a journey through cryptic inner worlds.
