Baxaxaxa (DEU) – Catacomb Cult LP €26.88
Black Metal
Once thought long dead, existing as they did during the ancient days of the early ’90s, Baxaxaxa publicly arose from the dead in 2018 with an exclusive performance at the esteemed Destroying Texas Fest and then a gig in their native Germany. Feeling scorn for nowadays black metal and wishing to stir the cauldron of yore, the then-quintet quickly recorded The Old Evil EP and released it on cassette tape in October 2019. Buoyed by that burning-black momentum, Baxaxaxa released another EP, Devoted to HIM, little more than a year later. Both recordings’ respective titles should surely bespeak the black metal to which the band is beholden: rotten, primitive, and ancient, out of touch and most definitely out of time.

Baxaxaxa (DEU) – The Old Evil LP €26.88
Black Metal
THE CULT IS ALIVE! Once thought long dead, existing as they did during the ancient days of the early ’90s, BAXAXAXA publicly arose from the dead in 2018 with an exclusive performance at the esteemed Destroying Texas Fest and then a gig in their native Germany. Feeling scorn for nowadays black metal and wishing to stir the cauldron of yore, the now-quintet quickly recorded The Old Evil and released it on cassette tape in October 2019. The title itself should say more than enough: The Old Evil is exactly what it fucking is! Ugly ‘n’ primitive riffs, hammering rhythms, raw ‘n’ rotten recording, and hauntingly medieval synths – simply put, BAXAXAXA create black metal out of time! And out of touch, as it should stay, and will remain…back to the coffin they rest.

Dark Ambient
A black metal band from Rovaniemi (later Kuopio, then Helsinki), Finland, founded in 1989 by Marko Laiho (aka Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance), Jari Vaarala (aka Daemon Fornication) and Jari Pirinen (aka Sodomatic Slaughter). Beherit (meaning Satan in Syriac) is one of the first Finnish black/death metal bands and their 1993 debut album ’Drawing Down The Moon’ is a staple of Finnish extreme metal. Soon after the album was released Beherit became Marko Laiho’s solo project and his interest in electronic music also steered Beherit’s musical direction away from metal and the following albums were experimental electronic/ambient music.

Beherit (FIN) – The Oath Of Black Blood CD €15.88
Black Metal
Often regarded as the first Beherit album, “The Oath of Black Blood” is a compilation of Beherit’s “Demonomancy” demo and the “Dawn of Satan’s Millennium” EP, both of which were originally released in 1990. Beherit never intended for these recordings to be released as a compilation LP; a dispute with their label, Turbo Music, resulted in the label’s unilateral decision to compile the earlier recordings rather than wait for a proper album of new material, as Beherit intended. Nevertheless, for many people, “The Oath of Black Blood” was their introduction to Beherit, causing many to assume it was recorded as a proper album. Both “Demonomancy” and “Dawn of Satan’s Millennium” represent inflection points in Beherit’s evolution.

Beherit (FIN) – At The Devil Studio DIGI-CD €16.88
Dark Ambient
Like Beherit’s other pre-DDTM recordings, “At the Devil’s Studio” is a visceral explosion of bestial carnage. In fact, most of the tracks here are re-recorded versions of songs from the “Demonomancy” demo or else earlier renderings of tracks that appeared on the “Down There…” demo released in 1991 under the name The Lord Diabolus. There are three songs (“At the Devil’s Churns,” “Whores of Belial,” and the instrumental rehearsal track that opens the album) that don’t appear elsewhere in the Beherit catalog.

Behexen (FIN) – Beyond The Four Gates DCD €22.88
Black Metal
Truly titled, this massive double-disc collection conveniently compiles the original three BEHEXEN demos and the preceding Lords of the Left Hand one, making for over an hour and a half of ancient black metal music. Lords of the Left Hand’s lone demo, Reality is in Evil…, leads off Beyond the Four Gates, and even back then, the foundation for the first era of BEHEXEN – which culminated in (and concluded with) Rituale Satanum – was in place, all hulking plod and clanging cold guitars. Following on the first disc is BEHEXEN’s first official demo, Eternal Realm. Here, the cold clang is suffused with more energy and, more crucially, medieval synths: a poignant snapshot of 1997 indeed. From those sessions is included a cover of Rotting Christ’s “Sign of Evil Existence.” Come 1998’s Blessed Be the Darkness demo, BEHEXEN would begin showing signs of the sound that would come to define that first era. Colder, crueler, faster, and fueled by founding frontman Torog’s increasingly inhuman throat, this demo presciently forecasted the filthy & furious idiom of Finnish black metal that would bloom during the looming new millennium.

Behrosth (RUS) – Оазис MC €11.88
Psychedelic Rock
Breaking from a tangle of earth sage tree trunks, pledging allegiance to totem of haze smoke psychedelia, and wandering the wastelands of kaleidoscopic reverie— strikes those crusaders of drug cloud and shamnistic trance, known only by rainbow demon title of Behrosth. Once this entity of golden helm majesty stoked it’s carnal flames in the cold bonfire of raw black sorcery, but now has exchanged this expression for that of a more psychedelic doom bent, keeping only a slight essence of what it was once before and elevating its spellcraft by careful decision of narcotic induced hallucination.
