  • Mons Veneris (POR) – Inversados D’um Abismo De Podridão LP 24.88

    Black Metal

For those who know and truly understand actual underground black metal, MONS VENERIS require no introduction. For nearly 20 years now, this shadowy and insanely prolific Portuguese cabal have pursued a uniquely vile vision with an unquenchable thirst. From hammering primitivism to medieval melancholy, volcanic drone to chaotic oblivion, nods to the French Black Legions to frequencies far outside of metal, there’s never any guarantee of how MONS VENERIS’ vision will manifest itself – only that they’ll explore a darkness few have the constitution to tread.

  • Morta (SPA) – La España Negra LP 26.88

    Black Metal.

One of the black metal underground’s best-kept secrets, MORTA first fully arose from the crypt with SIGNAL REX’s release of their debut EP, Fúnebre. Banging ‘n’ clanging anguish echoing from the filthiest dungeons, the then-trio’s first short-length succinctly displayed their palpably physical – and surprisingly emotive – attack across nearly a half-hour. In a sense, Fúnebre felt like an album, but such was still brewing…

  • Morte Incandescente (POR) – Vala Comum LP 24.88

    Black Metal

In many ways, Morte Incandescente are THE penultimate Portuguese black metal band. They’re comprised of Portugal’s oldest and most prolific scene veterans, both of whom concurrently maintain their own long-running and highly regarded central creative vehicles: Vulturius with Irae and Nocturnus Horrendus with Corpus Christii. And while the raw black metal underground that they helped foment at the dawn of the new millennium has multiplied and malformed all around them, since their formation in 2001, Morte Incandescente have maintained their own unique headspace, always making the creation different yet the same – the vision overtaking all, no matter what form it takes. Rest assured, however, that Vulturius and Nocturnus Horrendus’ vision is always one that’s ancient-minded, uncompromising, and completely untrendy.

  • Nächtlich (CAN) – Howling Depths Rehearsal CD 15.88

    Black Metal

“Terrific recording of a Nächtlich rehearsal, in anticipation of their concert at the Summoning Of The Elder Spirits show in New York, on June 24th, 2022.

Released on home dubbed tapes for that same gig, this rehearsal was done with the full live line-up that composed that seance, playing that same setlist, consisting of tracks off of “Satanas Solum Initium Est”, their self-titled album, the “Third Ritual”, “Second Ritual of Night Worship” and self-titled EP’s.

Even more visceral than regular Nächtlich, fully recorded live in studio and onto tape, as the best of traditions, Nächtlich sounds fuller and more energetic than ever, entrancing their listeners with ritual fumes and stomping, unaplagetic primitivism, calling for the eternal reign of the dark cult. A hysterical praise for 90’s maniacs, and preaching for annihilation of scene tourists and revisionists. Those who know, know.

  • Ordem Satânica (POR) – Perpetuum Satanas LP 26.88

    Black Metal

The name Ordem Satânica should be more than familiar to those who follow the crimes of Signal Rex, or indeed the Portuguese black metal underground, which has risen to international prominence in the past decade. In that time, the shadowy collective have released a flurry of recordings, first as demos and splits and then the monumental Monte de Lua debut album in 2017 – each one grimmer and more ghastly, more hypnotizing and harrowing, as the one that preceded it – firmly establishing Ordem Satânica as modern-day atavists and furthering the infamy of their Aldebaran Circle (Trono Além Morte, Occelensbrig, Voëmmr, and Degredo et. al.).

  • Ordem Satânica (POR) / Mons Veneris (POR) – Negros Manifestos De Ordem Venusiana LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Negros Manifestos de Ordem Venusiana, a split LP presented on noble vinyl, to honor the ancient ways.

Indeed, both hordes wholly honor the ancient ways, and understandably are two of the mightiest and most respected hordes in Portugal’s nowadays raw black metal scene.

Negros Manifestos de Ordem Venusiana is something of an intergenerational pairing, however, as MONS VENERIS have been prolifically polluting the underground since 2003 while ORDEM SATANICA, by comparison, started their near-equally prolific onslaught in 2014.

Nevertheless, as representatives of the Portuguese Black Metal, here on Negros Manifestos de Ordem Venusiana do both hordes create provocative portrayals of their unique darkness and despair.

ORDEM SATANICA are on Side A and unfurl three haunting and medieval tracks, roaming the castle with that spectral rawness they’ve truly made their own the last few years.

MONS VENERIS are on Side B and offer an epic, side-long track that roams the rawest dungeons, spanning punkish bash and hypnotic hysteria alike, torrents of noise to ruin your soul.

  • Ründgard (CHI) – Stronghold Of Majestic Ruins LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Originally released as cassette by Mahamvantara Arts Records earlier this year, RÜNDGARD’s first public recording is one literally out of time. Mainman Lord Valtgryftåk is a prolific veteran of Chile’s increasingly potent black metal underground, concurrently handling the likes of Pyreficativm, 13th Temple, Gryftigæn, and Winterstorm among others. And while a number of those bands and satellite entities belonging to the Pure Raw Underground Black Metal Plague are indeed the rawest of the raw, with RÜNDGARD does he delve into ancient times, medieval majesty, and grim splendor somewhere between the earliest Nordic works and contemporaneous Polish ones.

Recorded during two periods over the course of MMXX/MMXXI and now featuring a mix & master by Rudrah Studios, Stronghold of Majestic Ruins suitably evokes its namesake both sonically and thematically. Empirically, the recording evokes the ancient passages and memories of a distant land submerged in mist and an interesting story behind ruins. As Lord Valtgryftåk explains, “Originally, this entity is directly related to those archaic dimensional Valdivian forces that still inhabit our realms, those forces from the past written in blood and guarded by solemn towers and fortresses that still remain alive.” And truly, that past comes alive across the album’s succinct-yet-expansive 25-minute runtime, maintaining a faithful respect for the old traditions and the sound of glorious times with an interesting melodic register at the same time very organic. No record-collector-nerd “raw black metal” here: only authentic ancient vintage!

For those nostalgic for forgotten realms and archaic ages, RÜNDGARD returns from a deep slumber with the fortifying Stronghold of Majestic Ruins!
