TROLLDOM is a name that goes back many years. While the band’s date of origin is unknown, the first demo, Av gudablod röd…, was released in 2016. That TROLLDOM played authentically vintage second-wave black metal should hardly be surprising considering it came under the banner of Ancient Records linchpin Swartadauþuz (Azelisassath, Bekëth Nexëhmü, Muvitium, Greve, MUSMAHHU, Digerdöden, Gnipahålan, Mystik, Summum, Daudadagr). Back then, his rabidly prolific nature was just starting to blossom, and TROLLDOM was yet another new-yet-old creation that contributed to his wider cosmology whilst standing on its own.

This split features two of the harshest and most haunting Portuguese black metal hordes. Starting off are TRONO ALEM MORTE, who offer two exclusive tracks which breathe a desolate ‘n’ desperate fury, irascible and irrational, like an endless howling into the void; these tracks preclude their forthcoming debut album in December, to be released at Invicta Requiem Mass III. On the flipside are VETALA, one of the most prolific bands in the nowadays raw Portuguese scene. Their lengthy, 13-minute contribution here continues that hysteric spree of misery, exploring all corners of their boundless dungeon in an almost improvisatory delirium; their Demo IV is forthcoming, so beware.

“Trans Cunt Whip” was the second strike of this bizarre fetish-Black Metal act. Recorded at the glorious Abyss Studios by Michael Hedlund and supervised by Peter Tägtgren, they developed their furious anthems to a higher level but never tried to appeal to more than just the Black Metal crowd. This 1998 album marked the most blasphemous peak of a highly original music act who split up in the year of 2000 as they planned it at their founding eleven years before. But “2020 V KUM”!

UMBRA CONSCIENTIA is a new project debuting on Terratur Possessions. Six tracks of extremely intense, well crafted, direct and aggressive Black Metal not unlike the greats such as Katharsis and Funeral Mist, but yet maintaining it’s own identity. I’m not a big fan of comparing bands and name dropping other acts, but seeing how this is a brand new band and release, I figured it couldn’t hurt to name two obvious inspirations to catch people’s attention out there. It’s truly an album worth checking out.
