It was but last year when HINSIDES burst from the void with a brazen split EP with comrades MONSTRAAT via SHADOW. Featuring a mere two tracks, HINSIDES’ half thoroughly convinced with its delirium-inducing madness and filth. However new this formation may’ve seemed here, HINSIDES is actually a new work of M.A. from the esteemed ULTRA SILVAM, where he gets to indulge in sensations that lurk below the melodic and magisterial.

In the womb of one of the secrets of time lies an inalienable resonance between the roots of man and his history cognizance. Oftenly, the seeking of an endless spirit endowment engulfs him with a veil of barren knowledge, that commonly ties his thoughts and reflections to the boundaries of an ordinary living, dragged by a flux of invisible strands that may craft a path leading nowhere. Sometimes, this delivers into a self-inducted catharsis where the glorious pursuit of ancient trails in own’s blood turns imperative. Despite it being minimum or gigantic. Pure as a child’s heart or intertwined as a chimera. This seed is what made man within and not without. Empowering him to step above all his previous versions yet giving birth to what will become his spiritform.

After 2019’s well-received Endless Trails demo via SIGNAL REX, HOLLOW WOODS strike with a full-length debut fittingly titled Cold Winds Cleave the Earth. While hailing from Finland, this mysterious entity largely eschew their homeland’s reigning black metal idiom, instead taking influence from Ukraine (Roman Saenko’s projects), Norway (early Ulver, equally early Gorgoroth), and especially Russia (the Blazebirth Hall collective). In other words, pure & proud BLACK METAL, nevertheless done with personality and charisma.

For over 25 years now, the Finnish black metal institution – founded by uber-prolific guitarist/songwriter Shatraug (Sargeist, Behexen, et al) – have built a vast, virulent body of work beyond compare. In fact, when one mentions “Finnish black metal” nowadays, the name Horna is immediately invoked…and for good reason. Simply put, their vision of unapologetic BLACK METAL is proud and pure, and played with an intensity and finesse that’s familiar yet unique.

“Kasteessa Kirottu” is a special release made of unearthed songs which were never recorded before.

Dating back as far as days when we had not even recorded the first demo “Varjoissa” back in 1995, stretching between the years until 1999.

Only one song composed during recent times is included as it was never intended to be for Horna, but sometimes changes etch their mark in time.

This is in no way a real new album but represents early influences and as such, features material which to many may seem an oddity yet is still Horna to the fullest extent.

Since their emergence in 2011, HOUSE OF ATREUS have become one of the most singular hordes to hail from North American soil during that time. Across a demo, an EP, and two successive full-lengths, the Minnesota natives have patiently and painstakingly crafted death metal of a most epic order. A veritable riff-machine, HOUSE OF ATREUS are powered by the Greek tragedies and have that very same tragedy (as well as triumph) coursing through their rough ‘n’ rugged veins. Theirs is a sound unapologetically influenced by the ancient Hellenic legends Varathron and Rotting Christ as well as other singular riff-machines like Grand Belial’s Key and Arghoslent, and the earliest and most blackened works of Running Wild. However, HOUSE OF ATREUS handily transcend these influences, as evidenced by their critically acclaimed second album, From the Madness of Ixion, released in 2018 by IRON BONEHEAD. Truly, the quartet managed to add to this glorious lineage rather than merely bottom-feed off it.
