Power Electronics

The first-ever reissue of Atrax Morgue’s seminal album Death-Orgasm Connector, originally released in 2003 by Slaughter Productions, encapsulates the raw essence of Marco Corbelli’s power electronics, melding harsh noise with industrial undertones and dark synth-electronics, solidifying Atrax Morgue’s place in the experimental music landscape. From the very first track, I Kill Sex (Again), listeners are thrust into a visceral experience defined by Corbelli’s staticky rasps and eerie sci-fi synth notes. Each subsequent composition unfurls like a chilling soundtrack to existential terrors, culminating in a bleak exploration of themes that echo throughout the album. With ten tracks playing as a cohesive narrative, Death-Orgasm Connector captures a uniquely haunting atmosphere that lingers long after the final note. Corbelli’s compositions are characterized by their sparse arrangements and an evocative exploration of singular ideas, sometimes revisited until their essence is fully extracted.

Marco Corbelli’s artistic journey began in the early 90’s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in A5 format. The first was The Pleasure Agony, followed by Sick and Murders. The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that will follow Marco throughout his artistic career: sadism, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly death. In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, Marco Corbelli began his musical activities creating the Slaughter Productions label and the Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian Power Electronics act The Sodality, with their 1987 LP Beyond Unknown Pleasures and from projects as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape In Search Of Death which will be followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the succeeding years.

AVRÆ LVNÆ are a power-trio hailing from the still-rising Ecuadorian black metal scene. Fronted by Wampyric Strigoi – mainman of WAMPYRIC RITES, who’ve had a huge hand in shaping that scene, as well as GRYMMSTALT, WINTERSTORM, and DUNGEON STEEL among many others – AVRÆ LVNÆ also feature erstwhile WAMPYRIC RITES / DUNGEON STEEL drummer Eblis Destructor and one Geist der Natur on guitar and bass. Uniquely, the band brand their black metal “neon metal,” which isn’t as garish as it sounds; rather, they draw to the fore the shimmering, stained-glass textures of mystical black metal, making for a mesmerizing (and MELODIC) display of psychedelic obsidian.

Formed in that fateful year of 1992, AZAZEL are among the first black metal bands to hail from Finland – and undoubtedly, one of the most cult. The band released a demo in 1993 and a mini-album in ’96, but then receded into the shadows and misery for many years.

Compared to that record’s ramshackle run through filth, fury, and most things bestial, Witches Deny Holy Trinity portrayed a more haunting and daresay “accomplished” version of AZAZEL. And the transition proved fortuitous, as the Finns continued to fine-tune their ancient vision of black metal and, if anything, delivered an album that’s as classically 1990s as anything around.
