TEUFELSBERG return their second full-length strike, Pakt mit dem Teufel. As cold and grim as ever, the band here spelunk among corridors rich in the treasures of pre-internet black metal, integrating not only their ancient Polish idiom but also contemporaneous Nordic and Hellenic ones. In a sense, there’s a sense of deja vu…initially, as the deeper one dives among TEUFELBERG’s treasures, the more those jewels shimmer in a manner uniquely the band’s own. As ever, the horde’s raw-yet-clear tones and attendant execution are superlative for their defiance against prevailing trends, and the full might of their mysticism is surely felt every second of this six-song/38-minute album.

With its extremely long, descriptive track and album titles, with the mystery surrounding the identity of the creator but most of all with a new, cosmic, symphonic and pensive black metal album called “As The Stars Slither in Agony”. Once again, the Gloomy Radiance of the Moon delivers a powerful, overtly theatrical and keyboard-driven take on black metal demonstrating the Nineties have not been forgotten at all. “As The Stars” is divided into eight chapters and each one of them displays the qualities of symphonic black metal conceived in its original form. Fast tempos, raspy vocals, raw and buzzing guitars are the ingredients of a recipe still capable of satisfying a lot of fans of extreme metal music around the world.

The early recordings of THORNS and their predecessor STIGMA DIABOLICUM belong to the most legendary and influential Norwegian black metal works of all time. This encompasses STIGMA DIABOLICUM’s “Luna De Nocturnus” demo (1991) and rehearsal tape as well the THORNS demos “Grymyrk” (1991) and “Trøndertun” (1992). Mastermind Snorre Ruch aka Blackthorn is widely credited as the original creator of the Nordic black metal guitar sound that in combination with the riffing and concepts of MAYHEM’s Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth laid the sonic foundation of the as famous as infamous Norwegian scene – and subsequently the global phenomenon that followed.
