  • Baxaxaxa (DEU) – Catacomb Cult LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Once thought long dead, existing as they did during the ancient days of the early ’90s, Baxaxaxa publicly arose from the dead in 2018 with an exclusive performance at the esteemed Destroying Texas Fest and then a gig in their native Germany. Feeling scorn for nowadays black metal and wishing to stir the cauldron of yore, the then-quintet quickly recorded The Old Evil EP and released it on cassette tape in October 2019. Buoyed by that burning-black momentum, Baxaxaxa released another EP, Devoted to HIM, little more than a year later. Both recordings’ respective titles should surely bespeak the black metal to which the band is beholden: rotten, primitive, and ancient, out of touch and most definitely out of time.

  • Baxaxaxa (DEU) – The Old Evil LP 26.88

    Black Metal

THE CULT IS ALIVE! Once thought long dead, existing as they did during the ancient days of the early ’90s, BAXAXAXA publicly arose from the dead in 2018 with an exclusive performance at the esteemed Destroying Texas Fest and then a gig in their native Germany. Feeling scorn for nowadays black metal and wishing to stir the cauldron of yore, the now-quintet quickly recorded The Old Evil and released it on cassette tape in October 2019. The title itself should say more than enough: The Old Evil is exactly what it fucking is! Ugly ‘n’ primitive riffs, hammering rhythms, raw ‘n’ rotten recording, and hauntingly medieval synths – simply put, BAXAXAXA create black metal out of time! And out of touch, as it should stay, and will remain…back to the coffin they rest.

  • Beherit ‎(FIN) – The Oath Of Black Blood LP 32.88

    Black Metal

Often regarded as the first Beherit album, “The Oath of Black Blood” is a compilation of Beherit’s “Demonomancy” demo and the “Dawn of Satan’s Millennium” EP, both of which were originally released in 1990. Beherit never intended for these recordings to be released as a compilation LP; a dispute with their label, Turbo Music, resulted in the label’s unilateral decision to compile the earlier recordings rather than wait for a proper album of new material, as Beherit intended. Nevertheless, for many people, “The Oath of Black Blood” was their introduction to Beherit, causing many to assume it was recorded as a proper album. Both “Demonomancy” and “Dawn of Satan’s Millennium” represent inflection points in Beherit’s evolution.

  • Beherit ‎(FIN) – At The Devil Studio LP 28.88

    Dark Ambient

Like Beherit’s other pre-DDTM recordings, “At the Devil’s Studio” is a visceral explosion of bestial carnage. In fact, most of the tracks here are re-recorded versions of songs from the “Demonomancy” demo or else earlier renderings of tracks that appeared on the “Down There…” demo released in 1991 under the name The Lord Diabolus. There are three songs (“At the Devil’s Churns,” “Whores of Belial,” and the instrumental rehearsal track that opens the album) that don’t appear elsewhere in the Beherit catalog.

  • Bergraven (SWE) – Det Framlidna Minnet LP 24.88

    Black Metal

Sweden’s Bergraven are never shy of venturing to the very edge of black metal terrain and staring into the maddening abyss. In the nine years since Till Makabert Väsen all three members have been busy with their exceptional Stilla project, which has served to take the edge off the longing for new material. Bergraven are, however, an altogether more complex, ethereal beast and allows the trio to indulge their more experimental proclivities. Det framlidna minnet deals with memories – their fluid nature and how the healthy human spirit builds a wall around itself with carefully adjusted memories and yet sometimes the system corrupts and memories become ghosts that haunt their hosts with regret and despair. Present are the band’s trademark unusual song structures and jazz-inspired passages, which add a further sprinkling of chaos and unease to the mix. Over the course of eight intoxicating pieces, injected with the most intelligent, nuanced songwriting prowess to date, Bergraven remind us that expectations rarely match up with reality and what becomes of us in this mortal coil.

  • Bergthron (DEU) ‎– Verborgen In Den Tiefen Der Wälder… LP 26.88

    Black Metal

It has been 23 years since “Verborgen in den Tiefen der Wälder” saw the darkness of the world. Atmospheric and also romantic black metal in the vein of old Satyricon or Gehenna. Nevertheless Bergthron developed their own dark and heathen atmosphere and the music doesn’t sound like a norse plagiarization. It was never about copying a group or bagging quick glory. Bergthron basically went on distance from the scene or never belonged to it also interviews were only given very rarely. It was a myth of the German black metal movement. Individuals who wanted to disconnect from normal society. As important as this release may have been, it never saw its existence on vinyl. “Verborgen in den Tiefen der Wälder” was originally released through Perverted Taste.
