And so it was told that in the seventeenth year, things that were thought to be dead begun to stir again in the earth, as if awoken by the stench of man-fear penetrating deep beyond the reach of sunlight. Reanimated by some nameless and cursed source of vitality they say it has begun pouring and trickling from the dark crevices of the North, like an ancient curse into the veins of the world. And with the same fearful fascination that we behold something full of life being robbed of it’s vitality and pulse, we shall now bear witness to that which ought to be forever dead but by unnatural impulse and eager invocation is again given life, to haunt and to stalk the night of the world.

One of the best Oi! albums of his time. We’re talking about the debut work “Patriotic Voice”, the first American Oi! Band Arresting Officers from 1989, with which the musicians played a combination of “eggs” and melody. You can say a lot about the band, that they were “right-wing” or even went a little further in their own way. The fact is that the boys from Philadelphia were American patriots in the best sense. Therefore, they did not want to spread the message of US imperialism, for which patriotism is now known to be abused by the transatlantic establishment. Due to the increasingly narrow corridor of opinion in the Federal Republic of Germany in 2019, accompanied by politically desired criminal prosecution, two songs unfortunately had to be removed compared to the original CD. The tracks “The boat is full” and “Why do you stay silent?” are NOT included on this record!

Calamites & les Calamités is the first full-length of Ascète. Through a rusty black metal, joyfully old, Ascète gives its vision of a forgotten and forlorn countryside, where the small poor people of campains slowly die in the indifference of big cities administrations. Melodic Black metal with punk/oï influences, Calamites & les Calamités haunts us in ridiculously difform Perigord legends, carried by the decadent proclamations howled in an almost ruined, out of age barn… (vocals were actually recorded there).

The magnificent work on guitars and sound will carry you in a forgotten countryside, where an aging population, almost feral and animal-looking, discretly and suspiciously wanders in its misery. Among the remains of minor historical landmark monuments, which returns to Earth, too. Slower, maybe, but in the same definitive manner.
