From its first moments, the record summons merciless blackened death metal soaked in the old blood of the 90’s trailblazers. The band’s first release with Nuclear War Now!, this latest release features seven tracks of rapid-fire aggression and bestial hostility.

Incubating slowly as the plague months passed, ‘One Nightmare Unto Another’’ reveals a rearmed and retaliatory variant of the group. Pared down to a maniac core of two members, ILLUSORY (Spectral Wound) and OLCADÓIR (Skumstrike) invoke the dark gods of ancient black and death metal. Fans of Blasphemy, Demoncy, Beherit and the wildest excesses of Slayer will find fresh meat to feast on amid the record’s barbaric purity.

After 25 years of activity, StarGazer has firmly established itself as one of the most enduring Black/Death bands in the Australian extreme metal scene. And although they have remained continuously productive during the last quarter-century, their output is sparse, owing to the band’s meticulous approach to writing and recording. Consequently, the release of every StarGazer album is a momentous event. Recorded during the early stages of the Great Reset, “Psychic Secretions” is just the fourth full-length album in the StarGazer catalog and comes six years after their last album, the brilliant “A Merging to the Boundless.

Beginning in the early 1990s, a handful of musicians in Greece established one of the most distinctive and compelling regional sounds associated with the Second Wave of Black Metal. Rotting Christ laid the foundation for this particular sound, and other acts immediately followed suit helping to define the Greek Black Metal sound and bring it to prominence within the international scene. The importance of Varathron’s contribution cannot be overstated. After releasing what is arguably the greatest Greek Black Metal album of all time, 1993’s “His Majesty at the Swamp,” Varathron recorded and released the superb follow-up, “Walpurgisnacht” two years later. Since that time, the overwhelming brilliance of the former has often overshadowed the fact that “Walpurgisnacht” is a classic album in its own right. From the outset, with the opening track, “Tleilaxu (The Unborn Child),” it is clear that “Walpurgisnacht” contains all of the characteristic traits of Greek Black Metal. The riffs are somber and melancholy, yet driven by a sense of mania, often suddenly giving way to slower, majestic passages firmly set in the Hellenic tradition. Reminiscent of the early recordings of Monumentum, on “Walpurgisnacht,” Varathron skillfully weave into the fabric of the album a slightly gothic influence producing an unearthly effect in which transient, morose interludes and subtle keyboard flourishes accentuate the album’s mystical feel.

“Betrothing Spirits at Nightfall” is Vengeance Sorcery’s debut full length of morbid black metal. This slab of occult metal has been conjured by the mind of Deathwalker (Nihil Invocation, USA) and derives its influence from bass-driven, black metal cults such as Barathrum, Ride for Revenge, Perverted Ceremony, Demoncy, etc. Originally a 1 piece project, Deathwalker has welcomed help from his homelands & Russian tundra along the path.

Venusberg Cardinal’s Atlas of Dungeons was recorded winter 2010—the same sessions as Departure Chandelier’s Antichrist Rise to Power and was intended as a brother project exploring medieval and ancient tortures depicted across such paintings as The Garden of Earthly Delights and the doom of pre-Raphaelite Greek mythology in what the band describes as “antique black metal.” Originally set for release as a cassette album, this has been pulled from the archives of Occult Antiquities and presented to judged souls now under the banner of NWN! Productions. Musically in line with French black metal influences, Atlas of Dungeons pays special tribute and honors the perverse satanic cruelty, in particular of Cantus Bestiae. Despite using the same 4-track, drums, and guitars as Departure Chandelier in the now fabled Prisoner’s Chant studio, listeners will find a pure minimalist black metal atmosphere devoid of synth with long, hypnotic instrumental passages—until the alarming and eerie outro that features the previously unknown electronic/ambient peripheral of Departure Chandelier…Coronation Prédateur. Welcome, sinners, to the world of Occult Antiquities and antique black metal!

Finland’s WITCHCRAFT have spent the past decade unleashing a series of demos and splits that feature some of the most diabolical black and death metal to emerge in years. In the vein of legends such as BEHERIT, BLASPHEMY and BARATHRUM, WITCHCRAFT play raw, bestial black metal with a total devotion to darkness, from the uncompromising brutality of their music to the necrotic quality of the recordings themselves. NWN! Productions is proud to present “Bestial Vociferation,” a compilation of previously unreleased rehearsal and demo recordings from 2015-2018. These tracks display an unnerving ferocity from a band who does not simply mimic their influences but injects a manic intensity into the music that makes them worthy successors to the aforementioned hordes. The vocals are exceptionally barbaric, adding a thick layer of cruelty to the already violent atmosphere inherent in the music. The occasional moan of funereal organ further enhances the aura of pure evil, solidifying WITCHCRAFT’s status as one of the most devastating bestial black metal bands today. Featuring tracks from the rehearsals “Necro Molestation,” “Nightmare Goetia,” “Walpurgisatanacht” as well as two demo tracks, “Bestial Vociferation” is a document of a group who truly comprehends the infernal nature of their medium.

Two of Finland’s black metal hordes unite to compile and recite “Dead Christ Prayer,” an eight-track split release that represents both the country’s unique tradition and its future. Witchcraft, whose style pays reverence in no subtle way to the great Beherit, returns to expand its imprint and demonstrate its continued adherence to the unrefined bestiality that its primary inspiration pioneered thirty years ago. Its co-conspirators in Aske first inhabited the same time and space as Beherit, but then began an eighteen-year hiatus in 1998, returning in 2016 to embark on a second blasphemous stint of new recordings, which have culminated in this effort. “Dead Christ Prayer” thus presides over the exsanguination of the lifeless body of the false savior and the ensuing transfusion ritual, combining the old blood of Aske with the new blood of Witchcraft to perpetuate the cycle of evil.
